Epcon Communities Unveils New Foundation, Announces First Major Gifts Through Q1 2026

Epcon Communities CARES Foundation underscores enduring commitment to the communities the company and its employees call home

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Epcon Communities today announced the launch of the Epcon Communities CARES Foundation, a new corporate philanthropic initiative for the company’s home office and six regional markets. The Foundation and its focus areas were shaped by the results of employee surveys, with the majority of respondents expressing a desire for hands-on involvement in meaningful community service.

Built on the principles of compassion, action, resources, empowerment and service (CARES), the Foundation will focus its efforts on six key pillars: cancer care and research, pediatric care, military and first responders, animal welfare, disaster relief, and hunger and homelessness. Its three-tier structure unites the company around organization-wide giving, regional partnerships and local initiatives led by employees.

“This is a program shaped by the voices of our associates,” said Joel Rhoades, CEO of Epcon Communities. “The Epcon Communities CARES Foundation reflects what matters most to our teams. Together, we’ll make a lasting difference not only through financial contributions, but also by giving our time, energy and care to strengthen the communities we call home.”

To mark its launch, the Foundation announced the recipients of its first wave of gifts through Q1 of 2026:

- The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University.

- Pediatric hospitals in Epcon’s six regions:

  • Nationwide Children’s in Columbus.
  • Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
  • Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte.
  • Riley Children’s Health in Indianapolis.
  • UNC Children’s Raleigh.
  • Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville.

- Canine Companions, bringing together trained service dogs and individuals with mobility challenges or PTSD.

- Convey of Hope, delivering food and other humanitarian support to communities in need.

- Marine Toys for Tots, collecting and distributing new toys at Christmas time to economically disadvantaged youth.

In addition to the major gift recipients, each regional office is provided with funds to support locally led volunteer efforts.

“The Epcon Communities CARES Foundation demonstrates the power of listening and collaboration,” said Nanette Pfister, Vice President of Public Affairs. “By combining organization-wide investments with regional partnerships and local initiatives, we’re giving our associates the tools, resources and opportunities to create meaningful change where they live and work.”

This year, Epcon associates may participate in one company-sponsored paid service day. Service opportunities will increase in 2026. These service days will bring together regional teams in volunteer efforts that complement the Foundation’s giving strategy.

The launch of the Epcon Communities CARES Foundation, ahead of Epcon’s 40th anniversary year, represents both a celebration of the company’s legacy and a commitment to the future. With this inaugural year as a starting point, Epcon looks forward to growing the Foundation and expanding its support for the communities it has proudly called home for the past four decades.
